The Copernicus Hackathon in Athens, part of the European Union Copernicus Start-up Programme, is set to facilitate the co-creation of disruptive and breakthrough solutions, new business ideas and opportunities based on Copernicus data and services in Athens, Greece.
Participants will be invited to freely choose among cutting edge Copernicus challenges using their creativity and inspiration and with the guidance of the mentors, experts, supporters and advisors they will develop their own disruptive ideas that will shape the future of EO and space value chains. The Copernicus Hackathon in Athens will also focus on challenges of local interest (maritime, agriculture, digital tourism and recent key challenges for Greece (forest fires, floods, sea pollution, homeland security), but also on ways that technologies from other sectors can provide an added-value in the processing of EO data.
The Copernicus Hackathon in Athens will not be limited to the actual competition event, but it will be a long process offering all necessary support for ideas to be transformed into matured products and services and teams to successful start-ups.
It includes warmup events and training before the hackathon, to allow for the building of stronger bonds among team members and a deeper understanding of the challenges, and continues after the competition by supporting the selected winners with a targeted growth program that includes further training and mentoring, and a network high-profile mentors to achieve the transformation of ideas into successful start-ups.
