Reading the compass
TEDxThessaloniki is preparing to read the compass, on April 22, from the Thessaloniki Concert Hall!
Compass: an instrument used to tell one’s orientation, utilising the displayed direction as a point of reference.
The compass is an instrument that has been used for centuries and today seems more useful than ever.
Everyone is attempting to remain stable under the successive changes, trying to identify positive elements and essentially find balance, internally and towards their surroundings.
The crew of TEDx Thessaloniki 2017 has chosen this title because we live in an era when constant values seem to be overturned and we are left wondering whether there is a correct course, how we can find it and if it will suit us after all.
Besides, each person’s compass differs and can only be found within them. They might not be able to see it, not be able to always feel it, but it’s there. It leads them and, so to speak, it brings the person back on track. All it takes is one glance. By reading, calibrating and finally mastering our compass, our world’s compass, we achieve balance in a global society which changes perpetually.
This year, on the stage of the Aimilios Riadis Hall, M2 Building of the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, we shall have the pleasure to meet speakers from all over the world who will talk about topics varying over education, technology, as well as everyday issues which introduce new variables and spin the needle of our compass. Among them are data journalism and the culture of modern digital users, the rights of elderly persons and civil society. Moreover, we take a journey in the domain of information and how it can be translated into numbers, as well as the world of cryptography.
We invite you to spin the compass together on April 22nd 2017.
